紹介文(目次)： ルファスは1907年に来韓して崇実大学校で数学と科学教師として活躍し、韓国の天文学史を研究した。最初の成果として1913年に朝鮮太祖の石刻天文図である天象列次分野之圖を分析した論文を発表して、1915年にこの内容を整理、米国天文学専門誌に載せて韓国天文学を初めて世界に知らせた。1912年以後にはソウルでキリスト教連合大学(Chosen Christian College、後に延禧専門学校)設立に献身して、1917年まで延禧専門学校教授として奉職した。1917年帰国後にはミシガン大学天文学と教授と天文台長を引き受けた。 1935年に安息年を得て1年間再度来韓して延禧延喜専門に留まり韓国天文学に対する本を出版した。
